GM Prefered Post Format

From Heroes of Lastwall PbP
Jump to navigation Jump to search
  • Please post in third person singular, present tense -- the thread should read as if it's a story in the third person, with an omniscient narrator. (That said, your character's internal thoughts, speech, etc. should all be done in their voice).
  • Just like most PbPs, the Gamemaster says, "Please post your character's spoken text in bold.", and thinks, and use italics when showing us the internal monologue...
  • Please post a quick character status line in your race/class description - so I can quickly reference AC, hp, etc. I'm not going to make you change it each time you get hit - but it's useful to know.
  • Group Decisions: When in a spot where the group needs to pick an option for going forward, we'll move forward when the majority of the party has had their say (unless we need more folks to break the tie).
  • In combat - please show me what the modifiers to your rolls are.
Examples:
So, if your character sheet tells me that your masterwork dagger is normally +4 to hit, and you're flanking and blessed, I'd like to see something along the lines of:
[dice=Masterwork Dagger]d20+4+3[/dice] [ooc](+2 flank, +1 bless)[/ooc] or
[dice=Masterwork Dagger]d20+4+2+1[/dice] [ooc](Flank, Bless)[/ooc] or
or something similar that makes clear what's going on -- it lets me make sure that people are applying the right modifiers.
  • In combat, I will continually update a combat tracker, and post a summary at the end of each round. That's the official tracker of status, etc -- so I'll be using those numbers to see who's dead or alive. So, if you note a discrepancy, please let me know immediately - I don't want to have to argue after someone's taking a nap, especially not an eternal one.
  • I strongly encourage the use of spoilers for contingencies. For example.
[spoiler=If The Goblin Dies:]
G'zar Goblinslayer shouts, "Another ear for my collection! Har!", and glares at the surviving scout with his intimidating gaze.
[spoiler=If not:]
G'zar snarls, "This one thinks he's tough." He narrows his eyes, focusing his intimidating glare on his opponent, "Well, little goblin, you're not anywhere near as tough as I am!"
  • Like most GMs, I prefer when you post in a language not shared by everyone in the party, that you use another language, and post in a spoiler.
The orc says, "Bunun gibi, örneğin."
[spoiler="Orc"] "Like this, for example." [/spoiler]
